Famous Photo!

All right, so it's a little tiny photo tucked into an inconspicuous corner of a magazine that is famous only  here in the Portland Metro region, but still...I have a published photo!

The art director at Portland Monthly magazine emailed me in early June to ask if they could use one of my Camassia photos. (Third one down in this post.) If you do a google search for "Camassia West Linn," and then click on "images," some of my photos show up, so I assume that's how they found out about my love affair with Camassia here on my little blog.

Nope, I didn't get paid. Didn't even get a free issue of the magazine. Hahaha...yes, I paid to buy a copy of the magazine this evening at the grocery store so I could find my little photo on page 62. And no, they didn't give me credit in the print version of the magazine.

However, I came home and looked up the online version, where "Kathy Haynie" is very nicely credited. If you click here and scroll down a bit, you can see the photo. Isn't that fun?

It makes me chuckle that I don't even own a fancy camera. This was taken with my little "grandma camera" that I carry in my pocket. Point-and-shoot with the automatic setting...that's my style! This photo's loveliness is a gift of the afternoon sun at one of the most beautiful little nature areas in the region. Thanks, Camassia!

The magazine actually has lots of good information and I am excited to learn about more local trails.
The home page for the current issue is here and the "City Trails" article is here. The "City Trails" page has links to different regions, and the Camassia article is on the "Southbound" link.

THESIS UPDATE (Exciting news!)

Some of you faithful readers will remember when I began writing my thesis in earnest during the summer of 2010. It is a memoir, comprised of 11 chapters covering a six-month period of my life,  for my Master's degree in Nonfiction Writing. And today...drum roll please...I finished the almost-final revision!!! I printed out all 140 pages of it this afternoon and tucked it into a 3-ring binder, where it will ferment and foam and froth until I am ready to read it through again. For now, it gets a bit of a rest. I'm scheduled to defend it with my thesis committee in October.

And why wouldn't they choose your photo? Point and Shoot or not, it's a beautiful photo of an amazing place! Congratulations. :)
